Large Welded Tank for Anaerobic Fermentation in Biogas Industry
Anaerobic digestion (AD) is a well-established process for renewable energy production in which biomass is broken down and converted to biogas (a mixture of methane, carbon dioxide and traces of other gases) by micro-organisms. The environment inside a biodigester is complex, depending on the composition of the feedstock and operating conditions, and some of the by-products are corrosive to certain structural materials. It is essential to minimise maintenance because each time the AD process is interrupted, it takes 3-4 weeks for production to start up again.
Welded Tank is composed of steel plates, welded at site, then specially treated for anti-corrosion. For the external surface, it's painted with red lead rust-proof paint, while the internal surface is painted with epoxy coal pitch. After treatment, the welded tank can resist strong acid and alkali, suitable to function as biodigester.
When you see the huge welded steel tank, it may look like it's always been part of the landscape. But before that tank was built, an engineer need design its structure according to customer's request, then the company prepares the steel plates and transports them to the site. Meanwhile, the site need to be cleared and foundation should be prepared in advance. When everything is ready at site, the company need weld the tank together right there on the foundation, and then painte it for anti-corrosion.
